Get to Know Briarwood Pool

There’s something about summer at Briarwood.

The familiar faces. The friendships made between swims. Bagel bites, afternoon pool days and children who grow up spending their summers here.

Briarwood Pool is a nonprofit, member-supported neighborhood swimming pool in Jackson, Mississippi. For our members, it’s a place to swim, gather, relax and enjoy a little of that good, old-fashioned summer magic.

But Briarwood is also something bigger: a community of people who care about keeping this special place going for the next generation.

A Pool Powered by Its Members

Briarwood isn't a commercial swimming facility. We're a nonprofit neighborhood pool supported by the people who join, participate and invest their time in making it a great place to spend the summer.

Memberships help sustain daily operations, staffing, maintenance and programming. Our volunteer board of directors works alongside pool staff, coaches and members to keep Briarwood running and plan for its future.

That shared investment is part of what makes Briarwood special. It's a pool built around community, with members helping shape what comes next.

More than a place to swim

Briarwood's impact extends beyond recreational swimming. Through youth athletics, community partnerships and seasonal programming, we make space for people to connect, learn and participate.

Operation Goggle Strings

Every summer, Briarwood partners with Operation Shoestring to help local second graders learn to swim.

Through Operation Goggle Strings, nearly 200 young swimmers have received instruction that helps build water confidence, independence and important swimming skills. Supported by Briarwood coaches, volunteers and community partners, the program gives children more time in the water to develop skills they can carry with them for years to come.

It's one of our favorite examples of what a nonprofit neighborhood pool can make possible.

Supporting Youth Athletics

Summer swim team is a big part of life at Briarwood. The Briarwood Dolphins bring swimmers, families, coaches and volunteers together for practices, meets and a little friendly competition.

Briarwood also hosts swim meets with other area teams and has served for several years as the fall practice home for the Jackson Public Schools swim team.

We love making room for young athletes to grow, compete and find their place in the water.

Keeping Summer Traditions Alive

From Memorial Day to our annual Fourth of July celebration, Briarwood has a way of bringing people together.

Our seasonal programming includes activities, friendly competitions and beloved traditions like the Fourth of July cake walk, raft races and belly flop contest.

These aren't just events on a calendar. They're the moments that bring neighbors together and give families something to look forward to year after year.
